Making Ontario public sector salary data accessible, searchable, and meaningful for every Canadian.
The Ontario Sunshine List Directory is an independent, non-partisan resource dedicated to making Ontario's Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act data freely accessible to all Canadians. We believe that transparency in public sector compensation is fundamental to democratic accountability.
Our platform provides a powerful, user-friendly interface to search, analyze, and understand salary trends across Ontario's public institutions — from hospitals and universities to municipalities and crown agencies. With over 2.8 million records spanning 29 years (1996–2024), we offer the most comprehensive searchable database of Ontario public sector salaries available online.
The "Sunshine List" is the informal name for Ontario's Public Sector Salary Disclosure, a provincial regulation that requires Ontario public sector employers to publicly disclose the names, positions, salaries, and taxable benefits of employees paid $100,000 or more in a calendar year.
The list was established under the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act, 1996 and is published annually by the Government of Ontario. The $100,000 threshold has remained unchanged since 1996, meaning that due to inflation, a significantly larger proportion of public sector workers appear on the list each year.
Covered employers include hospitals, school boards, universities and colleges, municipalities, provincial agencies, and other publicly funded organizations across Ontario.
